A Minor Thought: “Hot Irons”??

I will fetch that rosewater from the studio today. But as I stare across my kitchen, planning my evening…

Close-up screenshot of the Hannah Woolley recipe for Wafers reading only "and bake them upon hot irons". The screenshot has been "drawn" on with red writing and doodles: "bake" and the "s" in "irons" is circled, and arrows and question marks are surrounding "hot irons".

Fig. 1. Bake? Plurally?

I had originally assumed I would be using a skillet for this, but now I’m wondering– should I clean my waffle maker? Is it a normal waffle maker or a Belgian one? I have a George Foreman grill I’ve never used– is now the time? How many “baking” variants can one batch of this recipe actually make?

Dear god, do I need to buy more eggs?
